Eat Real Food Academy

Eat. Move. Sleep. Extraordinary health is that simple. I'll show you how.

When did eating become so complicated?

March 14, 2018 by Carolyn Coffin

I’m not sure if you’ve ever noticed, but when it comes to making informed food choices there is enough information out there to make your head spin.

  • Should you follow the Atkins, Paleo, South Beach or Zone diet?
  • Should you go gluten-free, keto, or buy everything organic? What about intermittent fasting or detoxing?
  • Should you go high carb, low fat (HCLF) OR low carb, high fat (LCHF)?

When did eating become so complicated? How do we make sense of it all? Don’t you wish someone would make it simple and straightforward?

Don’t mind if I do…

Eat. Real. Food.

Whole food. Food that’s close to the source. Food with few ingredients on the label, or better yet … no label at all.

WHY?

Because real food has a high nutrient-density — meaning there are a lot of nutrients per calorie — which leaves you pleasantly satisfied and well nourished rather than hangry and craving more.

Real food regulates your hormones, helping you work with them rather than against them.

Real food fosters a healthy gut bacteria and immune system, both of which are integral to feeling your best.

Remember the simplicity of real food at your next meal. What will you put on your plate?

Oh gosh, so true!! I was reminded (yet again) the other day when I ate a sugary dessert that was served to me, something I haven’t done in a couple of years. I literally felt the sugar hit my bloodstream. It was shaky, dizzy and felt like I wanted to ‘scratch the food’ right out of me. Actually, I thought “Is there an antidote to this?” Just confirmation that ‘keeping it REAL’ is the only way to go.

Sometimes those nutritional off-roads can be valuable in the sense of reaffirming our commitment to real food. As you discovered, it’s probably not worth it for you to indulge in the sugary dessert when it causes so many unwanted side effects! Every situation has a lesson 🙂 Thanks for sharing. Carolyn

    Lifelong runner

For years I tried to sift through all of the conflicting and confusing information about what and when to eat and drink in order to be a faster, healthier long-distance runner – but it always left me frustrated.

With Carolyn’s simple, easy-to-follow, and sustainable approach, I’m finally running without pain in my joints (for the first time in years!) as I attempt to qualify for the Boston Marathon at 60 years of age. And the bonus is that I’ve lost weight!

Thanks for your commitment to my success with running and overall health.

  • Laurie T.

    Material Analyst

This is my lifestyle now. Since day 3 hunger pains left and I have never felt hungry or deprived since. This has completely changed my need for food. Not feeling like I just need something to eat NOW and making very poor choices is allowing me to fuel my body properly, not just make the hunger go away.

  • James T.

    Manager in Healthcare

From the depths of total diet confusion and frustration, and inches from the acceptance of ultimate defeat, Carolyn guided me through a journey of fundamental behavioural modification, and helped me to reset my preconceived beliefs about food and how it affects my body and mind.

The result? A net 50 lb weight loss (and counting), and the establishment of a self-management platform securely in place for lifelong sustainability.

The true result? The discovery of self-control, high self-esteem, and a new wardrobe.

    I'm forever grateful.

  • Mary Joan B. – MSW, RSW

You are both brilliant women with so much passion and knowledge to share. Thank you for creating such a powerful program. I feel like I have done every “diet” out there, but eating real food is the real deal. And with so many tasty things to eat, I haven’t felt deprived at all. It has been a great journey.
